Todd Patterson - Doom Patrol (2019)

A member of the Cult of the Unwritten Book and a follower of the Decreator, Todd Patterson was the wife of Martha and one of the two keepers of the Unwritten Book, which had taken the form of a boy. Rasing them as his own son, he taught Elliot the way of the Cult, preparing him for the day that he would save the world.

However, his faith in the Cult began to waver when Elliot was 12, beginning to feel cold feet about sacrificing his son's life.

He eventually rebelled in 2019, pleading with Elliot on his 18th birthday to leave the house and get as far away from Salt Lake City as he could. However, before he could tell him any more, Martha used a kitchen knife to slice his throat and silence him.

His body was transported to Nurnheim as a reward for his success at keeping the book safe, transforming into Father Archon.

Martha Patterson - Doom Patrol (2019)

A cultist of the Cult of the Unwritten Book, Martha Patterson raised her son Elliot - the Unwritten Book -  alongside her husband, teaching him the beliefs of the group. She would promise that he would be the saviour of the world when the book was compleated.

Martha and Todd were Elliott's only friends, wanting to keep him with her at all times to ensure the Book did not wind up getting damaged or destroyed. She also wanted to keep him happy, bonding with her son in repairing an old car.

Making him a cake for his 18th birthday, she wished her son Happy Birthday, going off into the kitchen to fetch a knife that she had forgotten to bring in. However, upon her return, she heard Todd trying to tell Elliot to run while he could, forcing her to slit his throat. Her good demeanour changed as Elliot rushed upstairs in panic, yelling at him as she followed him upstairs.

She did her best to fend off Cyborg and a group of metahumans as they broke into her house and kidnapped Elliot, following them through the portal into the basement laboratory of Niles Caulder. She was pushed back into the dimensional gate by Hammerhead, allowing Kipling to put out the lit cigarette that kept the gateway stable, sealing it behind her.

Despite her failure to prevent the book from being taken, she was bestowed the blessing of the Cult and was named their high priest Mother Archon. She was transported to Nurnheim, where she would rule the destroyed city and her new forces from the church.

Marilyn - Doom Patrol (2019)

An acquaintance and friend of Dr Harrison in 1977, Marilyn was a patient at Corpus Sanatorium at the same time as "Jane".

She was persuaded to join the Cult of the Recreator and helped in the exercise of transforming and writing the Rewritten Book into a dog. She was the one to suggest that the bell of Nurnheim be rung to reveal the hidden words, causing Harrison to call her out for her brilliance and asking that she be the champion that will find her when the time came.

In 2019, upon witnessing the Decreator appear over Cloverton, Marilyn set about on her mission to find Dr Harrison and summon the Recreator. She travelled to Barcellona, where she cut open a priest to breach worlds and transport herself to Neurnheim. Having followed her instructions to the letter, she warmly greeted Jane as an old friend, making a comment that they were definitely no longer in Jersey. Realising that she did not recognise her, she made a joke about looking the same as she had done thanks to cigarette and tomato pie, before trying to trigger her memory with how much joy and elation Harrison had caused her, giving her life purpose. Marilyn added that now the world needed the Doctor as much as she had done all those years before.

Wanting to do her duty and prepared to sacrifice herself for her friend and her deity, she stood up to Mother Archon, mockingly calling the high priestess and her Hood Men guard the circus. Scoffing at the notion that she was spitting in the face of God, Marilyn mused that she only believed in Springsteen and had spat in his twice before. Pulling a gun on the woman, she rolled her oxygen tank between them and fired, shouting "Viva la Recreator" as it ignited and killed them all.

Kay Challis - Doom Patrol (2019)

The original persona of the metahuman known as Crazy Jane, Kay Challis was a young girl who had been harassed so badly that her mind created 63 distinct personalities to protect her from harm. She allowed others to become dominant, fearing to reveal this side of her to anyone. It was heavily implied that she was sexually abused by a male relative when she was a young baby living in Arkansas, with one such incident in 1950 sticking in her head as a source of trauma.

When Penny Farthing was reduced to Kay by the perception-altering power of Mother Achron, she asked the high priestess to revert her back to any other personality than this one. She showed care for the brain of Cliff Steele aka Robotman, carefully lifting it off the floor and cradling it in her hands.

The Book of the Rewritten - Doom Patrol (2019)

A magical power source able to summon the Recreator, the Book of the Rewritten took the form of a nameless black dog, whose words could only be read when the bells of Nurnheim are rung to ensure the book would not be discovered until the right time. It was written by the faith of Doctor Harrison and the cult she created.

It took time for it to set in the world's history, stumping the oracle Baphomet about its existence, though she did eventually manage to track it down for Niles Caulder and Willoughby Kipling.

It was found by Kipling in a house in the nearby Cloverton, reading the words to summon the Recreator and bring back everything that had been destroyed.

The Decreator - Doom Patrol (2019)

Built by the pure faith of the Cult of the Unwritten Book, the Decreator was believed to be the shadow of the light of creation formed at the Big Bang. Others also mused that it was the umbra from God's light. Either way, it took the form of a giant eye that could cause organic and non-organic matter to cease existing in any realm. Their power was so absolute that it could even penetrate to other dimensions, including one inhabited by Mr Nobody and the captured Niles Caulder.

In 2019, after the Little Sisters of Our Lady Razer recovered and read the Unwritten Book, the Decreator was called into existence over the house of Niles Caulder and Cloverton, beginning the wipeout everything.

To counter this, the pair were forced to work together to create a new being entirely that would do the exact opposite, leading to the origin of the Recreator.  Both entities cancelled themselves out and disappeared.

The Recreator - Doom Patrol (2019)

Forged from the faith and hope of Dr Harrison and her fellow members of the Cult of the Rewritten Book, the Recreator was an eye that could reverse the effects of the Decreator and restore balance to the destruction being caused by the entity.

Once it was summoned by Willoughby Kipling reading the Rewritten Book, both them and the Decreator engaged in a staring contest for the fate of the Universe, one which they succeeded in.

They both eventually vanished hours later.

The Cult of the Rewritten Book - Doom Patrol (2019)

Formed in 1977 by Dr Harrison during her time in the Corpus Sanitorium, the Cult of the Rewritten Book was made up primarily of patients and staff of the facility, who all believed in the teaching of the Book of the Rewritten and its power to summon the Recreator in the universe's darkest hour. They were responsible for the book taking the form of a dog, as well as the magic being hidden and undetectable until the bells of Nurnheim were rung; for their own safety and the protection of the book.

One of the patients, Marilyn, was chosen to be Harrison's lieutenant, who personally travelled to Nurnheim and rallied Harrison to make the final charge on the Decreator and put an end to the Cult of the Unwritten Book. She sacrificed herself to kill Mother Archon and give Harrison the time she needed.

The other members were told to dance to "You can Ring my Bell" on the day the Decreator was summoned, all cheerily doing so in Cloverton in 2019. Although many began running as the power of the Decreator began to take effect, their faith was strong enough to save the world and stop the being from wiping out reality, reversing the effects.

Seeing both entities leave the sky, the cult cheered and celebrated the miracle along with the relieved citizens of Cloverton.

Dr Harrison - Doom Patrol (2019)

One of the 64 personalities of Kay Challis, Dr Harrison had the power to manipulate the minds of most people who could hear her voice, persuading them to do her bidding. As well as this, she could perform visual psychometric analysis on her targets, able to determine their fears, desires and flaws. Harrison first manifested in 1977 during an interrogation at the facility that Jane was a patient in, coming to Jane's aid when the abusive psychiatrist - Dr Bertrund - began to pry deeply into Kay's past to determine how she was created and who had caused her such trauma in her youth.

She fought back against him, breaking his facade of control before suggesting he repeatedly jam a pen into his eye, calling him a textbook misogynist and narcissist and shutting down his deflection of her shift in hair and eye colour as a means to hide his own insecurities caused by his mother. As he moved to comply, she remarked that his diagnosis of Kay was accurate if not crude in obtaining, stating that as Jane the world around her was "small" and she was "the monster" to be feared. Before this can be completed, she is interrupted by Mr Nobody freezing time and freeing her, telling her that together they were going to save the world.

Walking her through the plan to create another book for her followers to read, she is given a pamphlet, which she finds to be both unoriginal and weak. He counters this by suggesting that she take this opportunity to hone her abilities and see what she can do.

One by one, she began to influence the people in the hospital, from staff to patients with stories of the Recreator. Influencing them all, she soon built up a following, using their inspiration to begin writing the new book. Eventually, she would amass such a following that the plan succeeded, instructing her new apostles to dance when the Decreator appeared in the sky, biding time while her chosen one Marilyn travels to Nurnheim and awakens her memories to ring the bell and reveal the Book of the Rewritten's text.

Harrison was dragged out of her cell one evening by Burtrum, who had learned from the last encounter and now wore specialised earpieces to block out her voice. She struggled to escape as he told her that she was going to be taken to a private facility and lobotomised.

Secured in a van, she was driven away from the Sanitorium, where the driver revealed himself to be Niles Caulder. Allowing Harrison access to the key for her restraints, he told her that she was to come and stay at his house, a place where she would never again need to worry about her safety at the hands of the violent orderlies.

Whilst she sat in the back alone, expressing her surprise at how nice Caulder came across, Nobody contacted Harrison. He asked her to do one final task once the Decreator was successfully neutralised; find the original Doom Patrol.

With her memories triggered all those years later, she hugged Marilyn and thanked her for coming and showing her faith in her and the Recreator. With Marilyn's blessing, she was told to ring the bell whilst her chosen one confronted the Mother Archon, sacrificing herself so that Harrison could save the world.

Whilst in the Underground, Harrison fulfilled her promise to Nobody, informing Jane about the Doom Patrol and the "lead" that he had given to her in the hunt for the kidnapped Chief.

Elliot Patterson - Doom Patrol (2019)

The son of Martha and Todd Patterson, Elliot was raised by his parents in their home on the outskirts of Salt Lake City. From a young age he was taught the teachings of the Decreator, however, was unaware that he was, in fact, the living embodiment of the Unwritten Book and would bring about the end of the word; on the contrary to this, Martha would tell him that he would grow up to be a hero.

Kept isolated and with no friends other than his parents, they would bond making renovations on a car.

On his 18h birthday, he watched in horror as his mother used a cake knife to murder his dad, who had tried to warn him to run and spare him from his fate. Rushing off to his room, he was eventually saved by Willoughby Kipling and other metahumans, transporting him away from his house as his mother tried to stop them.

Branded with a cloaking spell made up of 2g of Michalangelo's Ashes, Elliot was spared from being killed and burned by Kipling, who reluctantly agreed to find another way of stopping the Cult of the Unwritten Book from seeking the book.

Staying in the basement with Larry Trainor, he expressed his doubt and fear at the effectiveness of the enchanted rosary beads set up to protect him. Looking at an old picture of himself and his parents on his phone, he mournfully wondered whether they did actually love him or just kept him around and raised him so that he could just fulfil her purpose as the Book. Growing angry, he contemplated ending his own life to ensure everyone's safety, cursing Larry's attempt to comfort him in his guilt and confusion.

With the door opened by the negative energy being living inside Larry, Elliot went to the second floor and sat on the window ledge, however, was unable to push himself to jump from it, considering himself a failure. He was caught by Rita Farr who persuaded the distraught teen to let them try and at least help him. She embraced him, before taking him down to the library to speak with Cyborg and the others.

Upon learning that all the Cult were coming for him, Eliot was escorted to the basement by Rita, who accidentally shattered one of the two rosary protection charms in her haste. Realising their importance, they set about recovering all the beads. Wondering if it was better to turn himself in rather than have them fight in his name, she snapped at him to shut up and continue, which he did do.

Elliot was once again saved by Rita as Kipling tried to kill him, who believed all was forsaken with the arrival of the Hooded Men, only for him to be dragged away by The Little Sisters of Our Lady Razor. He was taken to the garden where the nuns of Nurnheim began to read from his skin, transforming his tattoos into written text and bringing forth the Decreator.

Left staring at the Decreator in the garden, he was found by Rita on the garden bench and rapped in her coat to keep him warm. He absentmindedly mused that he was expecting a more violent ending of the world, such as darkness and fire rather than the eye, such as the legends of Hades he had read about in a book his mum bought him for as a birthday present. Believing that he was going to Hell - the Underworld - Elliot wonder whether it would be as the legends said, to be greeted by Persophone upon arrival, who would not only forgive him but also accompany him through his journey. He went on to tell Rita that they should have let him die, blaming himself for the death that was happening all around them. However, she replied that he was not the cause of any of this and that he was a young man who deserved to live a normal life. Intrigued by her idea to do anything he wanted in the final few hours of life, he was about to respond when he was erased by the Decreator.

Despite everyone being resurrected by the Recreator, Elliot did not, leaving Rita heartbroken as she realised that she had just lost someone she could relate to and saw as her own flesh and blood.
